Beyond this teaser, very little has been revealed about what to expect from Netflix’s small screen adaptation. The manga, however, takes place on an alternate version of Earth that’s in the midst of the “Golden Age of Pirates.” They all hope to lay claim to the “One Piece” left behind by the world’s greatest pirate, Gol D. Roger, prompting the young Monkey D. Luffy to raise a crew and become the Pirate King.
Luffy also has superpowers granted by a devil fruit that made his body like rubber and granted him incredible strength and agility. The moment he comes of age the young hero sets out on his quest.
Steven Maeda is serving as One Piece’s showrunner, and his past credits include The X Files, Lost, Lie to Me, Helix, and Day Break. We’re expecting 10 episodes, though there have been rumblings Netflix may have reduced that to 8.
The main cast includes Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Gibson as Usopp, Emily Rudd as Nami, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
